TYPOGRAPHY CLASS PROJECT -
Design Culture Now Poster
I tried to focus on the contemporary element of the poster. Contemporary by itself means living in the present, up to date. It means modern. Why a thing could be called modern? I think it could be called modern because it breaks the rule of the traditional method. It is new and fresh. I want to modify the text for the headline and I think cutout would be interesting. Font wise, I think a san serif would be better for a cutout as it is simpler looking. The serifs in a serif font will be a hindrance when being cut out.
I tried several font and I made 2 headlines, 1 with myriad pro and the other one with DIN black. Myriad Pro is more to the sleek looking and DIN Black looks much bolder. I think bold suits contemporary design better as contemporary design are bolder since they are different from your traditional design. The body text I used is Helvetica. I want to make the headline as the focal point of the poster and I don’t want the body text to overpower the title. I think Helvetica suits this poster as it is very clean and looks plainer than DIN black. I tried to focus on the flow of the text so the reader than read with a nice flow from the title, the place of exhibition, and finally the artist profile. I choose a plain white color to the poster to give a clean typography poster look. I think the bold text can stand by itself without any need of picture to help.
